The Emory Public Interest Committee (EPIC) will host the 4th Annual Public Interest Law Conference Saturday, October 13. The Honorable Representative David Scott of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District will deliver the keynote address at the conference luncheon. Representative Scott is author of the John R. Justice Prosecutors and Defenders Act of 2007 (H.R. 916), a bill promoting a loan repayment program for law school graduates who commit to serve as criminal prosecutors or public defenders.

Under the new pro bono program launched in the fall of 2006 to encourage and recognize student pro bono work, first, second, and third year students who complete 25 hours of pro bono work each year receive certificates of accomplishment and are recognized at a pro bono reception. When the program is fully implemented, graduates must have worked a total of 75 hours over three years for graduation recognition.
