Innocence Matters Project: The Troy Davis Case

On November 13, 2007, the Georgia Supreme Court heard oral argument on Troy Davis' motion for a new trial.  The Court will render a decision sometime between now and April 20, 2008.

In addition to the oral arguments, the court will consider Troy Davis' brief, the State's brief, and three Amici Curiae briefs filed by Professor Deirdre O'Connor, et al, Harvard Professor Charles J. Ogletree, Jr., and the Innocence Network.

If you are interested in learning more about the Troy Davis case, please visit http://www.savetroydavis.net.

THANK YOU Ali Syed and Silas Allard class of 2010 and Matt Warner class of 2009!

These three students were very intrumental in developing the structure and legal arguments advanced in our amicus brief.  Without their help, this brief would not have been completed.

Innocence Matters: Volunteer Opportunities

Witness Statements

The Innocence Matters Project is seeking a few students to help organize and chart out the various witness statements.

Research on Recantations

The Innocence Matters Project is seeking a few students to conduct research on standards for granting new trials based on recantations.

If you are interested in participating in any of these opportunities, please contact Professor O'Connor.

Building the GAELIC network

ICDC, in partnership with NUSL's LSSC Social Justice Program, is developing a comprehensive network and web-based resource for Georgia criminal defense attorneys litigating eyewitness identification cases.  The network, GAELIC (short for Georgia Eyewitness Litigators in Concert) will offer criminal defense attorneys the opportunity to benefit from the collective wisdom of trial lawyers across the state and across the nation.

Professor Deirdre O'Connor is looking for one or two students with a strong interest in criminal defense work as a volunteer assistant coordinator.  Ideally, one of the students would be able to travel with Professor O'Connor to Boston, MA for two key strategy meetings, first in November, 2007 and then in March, 2008.

To apply or to receive more information on this project, please contact Professor O'Connor to set up an appointment.
