Student Reflections

Consistent with a fundamental component of clinical pedagogy, learning through reflection, every week ICDC students submit a confidential journal entry reflecting on an aspect of their clinic work.  The students choose the topic and the tone.  The ICDC students are remarkably honest as they ponder the workings of the criminal justice system.  And, more often than not the entries are riveting and engaging; frequently infused with humor, creativity, sarcasm, bewilderment, anger, and pride.  At the conclusion of the semester students draw from their accumulated journal entries and give a presentation to members of the law school community.

Some particularly poignant and creative journal entries have been reproduced below with the authors’ permission for members of the law school community.  The ELS community may view those journal entries by logging in below and then clicking either the linked text above or by clicking the Journal Entry page.  Both options will become visible after successful login.

In addition, prospective students and members of the general public may click the video link to view a short (under thirty minutes) video of Dan Zytnick and Sarah Pentz Bottini’s moving final presentation.  (You will need Real Player to view this video link.)
