Public Interest Career Services


The Career Services Office at Emory Law School has a wide variety of resources for both students and alumni interested in obtaining public interest jobs. These include both print and web resources, as well as a full-time public interest advisor. In addition to the resources listed here, the Career Services Office also produces a weekly newsletter for current students that includes a section on public interest opportunities.

 

Web Resources


Attorney Jobs Online
This site contains listings of legal jobs nationwide as well as abroad. Job listings are for both the public and private sector.

Public Service JobNet
This site is published by the University of Michigan Law School. It allows users to search for public interest jobs by location, job type and/or practice area.

Harvard Law School's Office of Public Interest Advising
This site includes various guides to assist students and alumni in their search for a public interest job. Also included are links to other web resources that may be useful to students and alumni searching for public interest jobs.

National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL)
NAPIL offers the NAPIL/Vista Summer Legal Corps, as well as postgraduate fellowships. Additionally, the NAPIL site provides links to job search sites on the web as well as sites that provide information about the public interest job search process.

Idealist
This site provides a search engine for public interest jobs around the globe. Jobs can be searched by location, job type, and language. The site also provides information about nonprofit career fairs. Listing are for both legal and non-legal positions.

Print Resources
The Emory Law School Career Services office has an extensive selection of publications that may be helpful for students searching for perfect public interest jobs.

Public Interest Job Search Program
The Public Interest Job Search Program introduces students to the public interest job search process, including an introduction to the wide selection of resources at the Career Services Office. Students may also learn about job search strategies, summer job ideas, funding, networking, and much more. This program is held in September for 2L's and 3L's and in November for 1L's. This program is available only to Emory Law School students.

Public Interest Mentor Program
EPIC and the Office of Career Services join in offering this program that pairs students with public-sector alumni mentors nationwide.

Public Interest Career Fair and Forum
This career fair is geared specifically towards students searching for public interest jobs. It is co-sponsored by the Emory Public Interest Committee (EPIC) and three other Georgia law schools. The career fair generally takes place in February. In 2001, fifty four public interest employers attended the job fair.

Atlanta Area Public Sector Employers
This listing of public interest employers is available in the Emory Career Services Office. It is available only to current Emory Law Students and Alumni.

National Summer Evaluation Binders
These binders contain evaluations prepared by students nationwide discussing their 1996 summer experiences with public sector employers (non-profits, local/state/federal governments, including district attorneys, public defenders and US Attorneys' offices, judicial internships, etc.).
