Overview

The Transactional Law Program is designed to produce lawyers who not only understand the complexities of the law governing business organizations, including the bodies of regulation they face in both national and international markets, but also to understand the role that lawyers play in solving problems for clients, and in negotiating and preparing agreements to advance their business goals.

Students in the Transactional Law Program will be familiar with both accounting and finance principles that govern the businesses of their clients, as well as being broadly grounded in the basic legal fields that cut across all fields of business.  Some of these courses will emphasize contracting, such as Intellectual Property Licensing, Commercial Real Estate Transactions and Mergers and Acquisitions Workshop. Others will address the issues clients face when things go wrong, such as criminal investigations and international commercial arbitration.

Students are encouraged to cap off their studies with seminars and workshops in these areas.  The result should be a student who understands both the theory and practice of business transaction law.

For students not interested in obtaining the Transactional Law Certificate, this program can provide guidance in preparing for a career in transactional law, even if not all requirements are met.

Professor Tina L. Stark, (404) 727-9577, tina.stark (at) emory.edu serves as Executive Director of the program, and will be available to answer substantive questions about the program (including waiver requests) before students decide to concentrate and during the course of study.
