Programs, Centers and Clinics


Emory Law offers internationally renowned academic programs, centers and clinics that enable students to experience and celebrate the practice of law.

Academic Programs

  • Environmental and Natural Resources Law Program provides students a comprehensive educational experience in which to study a wide array of environmental law issues.
  • Feminism & Legal Theory sponsors several workshops and conferences each year dealing with issues related to feminism, gender and sexuality, and family law. The Project also hosts visiting scholars from around the world and maintains an archive of groundbreaking feminist legal scholarship collected over the past twenty years.
  • Field Placement Program provides students the opportunities to integrate substantive learning with the practice of law, improve legal skills, and develop confidence in practical lawyering situations. It also promotes the ethical practice of law, self-directed learning, and the development of a professional commitment to public service.
  • Speaker Series - Emory hosts an array of distinguished academic visitors each year.
  • Tax Resources at Emory
  • TI:GER Program (Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results) is a collaboration between Emory Law School and Georgia Tech that brings together law, economics, management, science and engineering graduate students in classroom and research environments to consider the multi-disciplinary process of innovation and taking inventions from the lab to the marketplace.
  • Trial Techniques Program is a two-credit course required for graduation that exposes students to the challenges of going to trial. It consistently ranks in the top 10 by U.S. News and World Report.

Centers of Excellence

  • Center for the Study of Law and Religion explores the intersection of religious traditions and their influence on law, politics, and society. The CSLR is designed to explore the religious dimensions of law, the legal dimensions of religion, and the interaction of legal and religious ideas, institutions, and methods.
  • Center for Transactional Law and Practice/Transactional Law Certificate Program provides students with a basic foundation in corporate and business law, together with a broader understanding of the role of lawyers in assisting clients to structure transactions, and the complexities they face under a variety of regulations, from securities laws to international regulations.
  • World Law Institute of Emory University develops, teaches and promotes an understanding of world law, which includes aspects of traditional public international law but also emphasizes customary legal relationships established at the initiative of voluntary enterprises and associations of persons engaged in transnational activities

Clinics

  • Barton Child Law & Policy Clinic gives students the opportunity to participate in legal work that promotes and protects the well-being of neglected and abused children in Georgia.
  • The Barton Juvenile Defender Clinic gives law students the opportunity to represent clients in delinquency and status offense proceedings in Georgia’s juvenile courts.
  • Indigent Criminal Defense Clinic offers students the opportunity to fully assume the role of a criminal defense attorney while representing clients charged with misdemeanor offenses.
  • The International Humanitarian Law Clinic pairs students with organizations and attorneys working on cases or issues in international humanitarian law, including representing detainees, raising public awareness of past, present and future atrocities, and ensuring the protection of civilians and combatants in conflict regions around the world.
  • Turner Environmental Law Clinic provides pro bono legal assistance to individuals, community groups and non-profit environmental organizations seeking to protect and restore the natural environment for the benefit of the public.

Study Abroad

  • Summer Program in Budapest - Emory Law's Summer Program in Budapest provides an immersive learning experience in International Law. Students will choose from courses such as Legal Aspects of Doing Business in Asia, International Business Transactions, or European Union Law II. Courses are taught at Central European University (CEU), an international postgraduate institution specializing in the field of humanities and social sciences and located in the heart of central Budapest. The language of instruction is English. Summer students will join European students already enrolled at CEU.

Public Interest

  • Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), is available to graduates of the Law School's Class of 2004 and later classes. The primary goal is to facilitate the ability of students with law school loan debt to accept lower-paying public interest and public sector jobs following graduation.
  • Public Interest Resources at Emory provides a variety of opportunities and information for students interested in pursuing careers in public interest.
