Rules


Hugh F. MacMillan Law Library - Third Floor

Library users may not engage in the following activities
while in the Hugh F. MacMillan Law Library:

  1. Disturbing other users or disrupting the Library in any manner, including noisy behavior, loud conversation, obscene or abusive language, solicitations for assistance, and similar activity.

  2. Talking on cell phones anywhere except in Library stairwells.

  3. Stealing or misappropriating the property of another Library user or a staff member.

  4. Engaging in conduct that threatens the personal safety or property or the physical or mental health of another Library user or a staff member.

  5. Using tobacco products.

  6. Possessing food or beverages other than water, except beverages contained in the officially approved Hugh F. MacMillan Law Library spill-proof cup.

  7. Bringing animals into the library, except those needed to assist users with disabilities.

  8. Intentionally removing Library property from the building without Library authorization.

  9. Intentionally misshelving or hiding Library materials.

  10. Damaging, defacing, or vandalizing Library property.

  11. Entering non-public areas such as staff work rooms, offices, and storage areas, except by prior arrangement or for an authorized purpose.

  12. Rearranging or moving library furniture or equipment without returning it to its original location.

  13. Receiving or placing calls using telephones at Library service desks or in offices.

  14. Committing any act in violation of an Emory University rule or regulation.

We reserve the right to require that patrons open briefcases, purses, and other personal property for examination prior to exiting the Library.

All members of the library staff have the authority to enforce these rules. All members of the staff also may authorize temporary exceptions to these rules.

Persistent, willful violations of these rules will be referred as follows:

  • For an Emory Law student, to the Professional Conduct Court.

  • For an Emory non-Law student, to the disciplinary body for the student's school or department.

  • For an Emory employee, to the person's department.

  • For all other users, to the Emory Police Department
