The Stacks unit is responsible for the movement of library materials; from the time they leave technical services after being received, throughout their lives in the library, until they are finally discarded or lost. Each day, staff pick up materials used in the library the day before and reshelve them, along with the materials coming back from Circulation. Because so much of the library collections do not circulate, in house usage counts are kept. For this reason we ask that you please not reshelve materials once you have finished with them.
Staff are constantly shelf reading the stacks for accuracy in call number order. Library materials are cataloged with the Library of Congress classification scheme, which clusters together materials according to subject matter.
