Reserves Direct is connected to the data feed from the Registrar's office. This means that faculty and the courses they teach are automatically fed into ReservesDirect. When students log in, they will immediately see all courses for which they are registered under the "You are enrolled in:" tab. If a particular class does not appear there, classes can be searched under the link to "Join Class" at the top of the screen.
An example of a class a student might wish to join could be our "Past Exams" classes. Also, in cases where there are many sections of a class are being taught (as with some seminars or interships), for Reserves purposes we add materials to one section of each class.
To search Reserves Direct:
- Go to ReservesDirect directly – there is also a link at the top of the main page of the Library’s online catalog, Euclid.
- Enter your network login and password.
- Once you log in, you will see all classes for which you are registered automatically.
- There may be classes which you wish to see that you are not registered for (classes of past exams which we have created, for example). To search these, click on “Join a class.”
- You can search either by instructor or by department (in our case, just LAW) – both options have drop down menus. NOTE: if your professor does not appear on the drop down list, we have not yet received any Reserve materials for him or her.
- Once you find the department or professor, click on the “Lookup…” button.
- Check the radio button for the class you wish to add, then click “Continue” – this will take you back to your “My Courses” tab and now the class you have selected will be listed there. Click on the name of the class.
- All materials on Reserve will be listed. If a professor has made any materials available electronically, you will be able to access them here.
- If only paper copies are available, you can make a note of the folder or book number (this will speed up the retrieval process once you come to the Circulation Desk).
- The item will be checked out to you for 2 hours. NOTE: Reserve desk items are not renewable. If you wish to re-check out the item, you will have to return it to the desk for 30 minutes. This will enable as many people as possible to check out very high-use items.
