Additional Patron Services

Carrel Checkouts: Law students and groups may check out certain books to library carrels for a designated period of time. Check-out cards and carrel regulations are available at the Circulation Desk.

Course Reserves: The library maintains a collection of course reserves, legal study aids, and first year textbooks (sorry, no upper level texts at this time).  Library reserves (the most current ongoing series including the Official Code of Georgia, books of forms, Martindale Hubbell directories, etc.) and newspapers are also held at this desk.  These materials circulate for 2 hours at a time and may be re-checked out if there is no one waiting for them.  Reserve materials must be used in the library.

Equipment: The library has some equipment available for 2 hour loan at the Circulation Desk.  This includes Ethernet cords, thumb drives, headphones,  tape records, walkmen, and laptop locks.  Travel mugs are also available for purchase at $5.00 apiece.

Exams: During the exam period, the Circulation Desk will assist the faculty by handing out and collecting exams or final papers.  If you are a faculty member who would like the library to help with your exam, please contact the Access Services Librarian (404 727 8211) for more details.  Copies of past exams are available on Reserve both in paper at the desk and in .pdf on ReservesDirect.  Please note that keeping study aids longer than 2 hours is considered an honor code violation.  During exam periods violators may be subject to a $45.00 per item overdue fine.

Finding Materials:  There are maps and guides on each floor by the elevators, and handouts available from the Circulation Desk.  EUCLID, the Emory online catalog, is available on every floor to help you locate materials.   For more in-depth assistance, please go to or call the Reference Desk at 404 727 6826.

Groups & tours:  The library does not offer guided tours, but groups from other law institutions may visit the library.  In order to maintain a pleasant and orderly learning environment and to avoid scheduling conflicts, we require reservations for all guests who plan to use the library with groups larger than five people.  To schedule a time for your group please call the Circulation Desk (404 727 6824) or the Reference Desk (404 727 6826).

InterLibrary Loan, Oxford, & Recall Pick Up: Items you have recalled from other patrons or requested from Oxford or through ILL are also held at the Circulation Desk.  You will need to present your ID to claim these items.  ILL materials are already "checked out" to you once they reach this desk, while recalls and Oxford requests will need to be checked out to you in Euclid when you come to pick them up.

Lost & Found: The library has a lost and found.  We keep all items for the semester and make every effort to reunite these items with their owners, especially ID's, phones and flashdrives.  Please call or come to the desk if you have lost something.  If we don't have your lost item, we have a log where you can give us a description and your name so we can contact you if it is found.  You can also try contacting the Reception desk (404 727 6818) or Emory Police (404 727 8005).

Reciprocity: Most law school libraries provide reciprocity to law students at other institutions, but details vary from school to school.  Most libraries require a letter or email from the home institution's library stating that the visitor is a currently enrolled student in good standing and providing a home contact in case any questions or problems arise.

  • If you are an Emory Law student who wishes to use another law library over the summer or other school break, please contact someone in the Circulation/Access services department at the library you wish to use and ask them what they require.  Next, contact the Access Services librarian at MacMillan, who will be happy to provide the required information.
  • If you are a law student at another institution who will be visiting Atlanta over a school break, please have someone at your library contact the Access Services librarian at MacMillan, either by phone or email with details of your current enrollment status and standing.

Summers at MacMillan: The Law Library offers space and some resources to students taking the Emory hosted BAR/BRI class during the summer.  We ask that visitors abide by library policies.   Each spring we post in depth information for BAR/BRI student at the Circulation Desk and on the library's website.  Call Circulation for more information (404 727 6824).

Storage Requests: Items which show a location of "Storage" in Euclid must be requested from the Circulation Desk.  Please come to the desk to fill out a request.  If available, a librarian will retrieve these requests immediately, but these materials will be pulled within 24 hours.

Study Space & Media Use: The library has 3 study rooms available for student use only, as well as 2 media rooms for viewing videos and DVD's from the Reserve collection.  These rooms may be signed out for 2 hours at a time up to a day in advance.   Groups may sign up in blocks, claiming 2 hours per group member.  You will be asked to leave an ID in exchange for the room key.  Fines will be charged for keys not returned. Please be sure to note if a sign up time will begin at half past the hour, as rooms which are not claimed within 25 minutes of their sign up time will be given to any waiting patrons.  To reserve a space, please call the Circulation Desk at 404 727 6824 or stop by the desk.
