Loan Policies: As is the case with many law libraries, a large portion of the collection is non-circulating. Among the non-circulating materials are reporters, statutes, digests, reference materials and multi-volume sets. Regularly non-circulating items may be checked out to a library carrel by Emory Law School students. Please see the Circulation Desk for more information on using carrels.
Overdues & Bills: Regular overdue charges accrue at a rate of $0.25 per day after a 5 day grace period to a maximum fine of $45.00 per item. Recall overdues accrue at a rate of $2.00 per day to a maximum fine of $50.00 per book. Courtesy notices are sent daily, 7 days in advance of the due date of materials, while overdue notices are sent every Tuesday. Three overdue notices are sent, at 6 weeks a lost book warning notice will be sent, and materials will be declared lost once they reach 8 weeks past their original due date. The replacement cost of the item plus a $25.00 processing fee will be charged. Books returned after 8 weeks will have their replacement costs refunded, but not the processing fee. Student bills are transferred directly to OPUS accounts; all other bills may be paid at the Circulation Desk of any Emory University Library by cash or check.
Recalls: The faculty loan period is for the academic year (materials due May 31st), while the general loan period is 28 days. Books may be subject to recall after two weeks and must be returned within 10 days of being recalled. Recall notices are sent both via email and on paper; please pay careful attention to the text and due dates of notices. Failure to return library materials promptly after recall will result in fines and may result in suspension of a user's privileges.
Renewals: Materials may be renewed via email by checking your account in EUCLID (click on the "My Account" button at the top, select "Renew Materials" and enter your 7-digit Emory ID to get to your record), by simply replying to the email notices sent, by phone at 404-727-6824, or in person at the Circulation Desk. Books do not need to be brought in to the library for renewal. Most materials can be renewed up to 10 times.
To renew items which are not yet overdue, patrons may come to the Library in person (it is not necessary to bring the books), call the Circulation Desk (404-727-6824), or go to Euclid (http://www.library.emory.edu) and click on My Account. From the My Account screen, enter your Emory ID number and renew materials (to look up your Emory ID number, go to https://www.library.emory.edu/uhtbin/nph-emoryID).
Items may be renewed online on or before their due date. If items are past their due date or have exceeded the allowed number of renewals, they must be brought to the Library for renewal. Courtesy notices are sent via email one week prior to Law materials due date to help facilitate renewals.
Reserves: Library material that is part of the reserve collection (located at the Circulation Desk on the second floor) may be used in the Library for two hours and renewed if there is no demand for the material. This includes Permanent Reserve material and Course Reserve material as well as first year textbooks and study aids. Some equipment (such as flashdrives, ethernet cords, headphones and laptop locks) is also available for check out. Please check with Circulation Desk staff for more information.
Who May Borrow: Books that circulate may be borrowed by anyone with a valid Emory ID card as well as Emory alumni who have registered with one of the University's libraries. Material can be charged out at the Circulation Desk on the second (main) floor. Law firms may contact InterLibrary Loan to borrow materials (404-727-2881).
Privacy and Confidentiality: The confidentiality policy is a combination of the University policy on confidentiality and federal law regarding the confidential nature of library records. The Federal Privacy Act of 1974, which is supported by the American Library Association Policy 52.4, recognizes and guarantees the confidentiality of all registration and circulation records. The Library Policy Committee of the University Senate has reaffirmed this policy.
