New Leaders Council
The mission of the New Leaders Council (NLC) is to train and support the next generation of progressive political entrepreneurs—those who are leading industries, setting trends and building institutions that support robust civic and political life in a global America. NLC Fellows engage in an intensive ten days of training over a five-month period to learn cutting-edge entrepreneurship, leadership and political management skills from over 150 industry-leading volunteer faculty. Upon graduation, Fellows are paired with career mentors, join a national alumni network and agree to fundraise to support the next class of Fellows. For more information or to apply, click here.
Clinton Global Initiative University
I am pleased to announce the third Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U), which will take place at the University of Miami from April 16–18, 2010. Visit our website to apply to attend.
The 2010 meeting—hosted jointly by President Clinton and the University of Miami —will focus on effective solutions to global challenges in education, environment & climate change, peace & human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. All attendees are required to make a Commitment to Action—a new, specific, and measurable plan to make a difference within any of these five areas.
Attending the CGI U Annual Meeting is free. Travel assistance is available for those who qualify. The deadline for early decision applications is Nov. 20, 2009, and the final application deadline is Feb. 1, 2010. Applications will be processed on a rolling basis, so you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Emory Law Pro Bono
All members of the legal profession have a professional obligation to undertake pro bono work on behalf of indigents and underrepresented groups in our society. Take action! The MoveOn family of organizations is made up of a couple of different pieces. MoveOn.org Civic Action, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, formerly known just as MoveOn.org, primarily focuses on education and advocacy on important national issues. MoveOn.org Political Action, a federal PAC, formerly known as MoveOn PAC, mobilizes people across the country to fight important battles in Congress and help elect candidates who reflect our values. Both organizations are entirely funded by individuals.
NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund is America's legal counsel on issues of race. Through advocacy and litigation, LDF focuses on issues of education, voter protection, economic justice and criminal justice. We encourage students to embark on careers in the public interest through scholarship and internship programs. Georgia Rural Urban Summit (GRUS)
Connecting Progressive Georgians: The mission of the Georgia Rural Urban Summit is to promote communication, cooperation and coalition building among diverse people, groups and communities in support of positive, progressive change. The Summit is a sponsored project of the non-profit, tax-exempt Fund for Southern Communities, based in Atlanta. The work of the Summit involves many different organizations representing a wide range of issues, including but not limited to: environmental groups, labor unions, civil rights organizations, women’s groups and others.
Washington Council of Lawyers
A voluntary bar association located in the nation's capital. Our mission is to promote the practice of pro bono and public interest law. Wellstone Action is a national center for training and leadership development for the progressive movement. Our mission is to honor the legacy of Paul andSheila Wellstone by continuing their work through training, educating, mobilizing and organizing a vast network of progressive individuals and organizations.
National Center for Civil and Human Rights Partnership
The Partnership was formed in order to undertake pre-development activities related to the Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Partnership consists of the Atlanta Development Authority and Central Atlanta Progress, with Doug Shipman at the helm as the Executive Director. This Center will explore the universal search for a secure human existence, in a way that inspires vigilance and leadership among future generations.
