Emory L-Star
Emory L-STAR is the Emory Law Travel and Reimbursement program. EPIC is a student-run organization that funds a summer grant program for students that choose to work in public sector legal jobs. (Click here for information about the work EPIC grant recipients do.) The program is one of the largest and most successful organizations of its kind in the country. In launching L-STAR, Emory has now joined with other successful programs at the University of Michigan, Northwestern University, and the University of Virginia.
To raise money for the Emory L-STAR program, firms agree to assist EPIC in fundraising by donating $165 for hotel accommodations or $35 for transportation to or from the airport for each student call-back when the student agrees to forego hotel accommodation and/or airport taxis. Students can choose to stay with family or friends instead of a hotel or choose not to use transportation provided by the firm. Participating law firms make a tax deductible contribution to EPIC in lieu of paying for hotel accommodations or transportation costs. The contribution will go directly towards funding EPIC’s summer grant program.

What Do Employers Need to Do?
To register for Emory L-STAR, please send an email to L-STAR, indicating how you would like the name of your firm to read, which of the firm's offices are participating, and the contact person's name, e-mail, and phone number. You will receive an invoice from us after Dec. 1 including information about how much money you will be donating and instructions for submitting your donation.
What Do Students Need to Do?
Please review the list of firms participating in the Emory L-STAR program. During or after call-back interviews, please submit the Emory L-STAR Form for Employers to the firm with which you are interviewing. Please click here for a link to the form. Please also submit the Emory L-STAR Form for EPIC to EPIC’s mail file next to the Office of Career Services. Please click here for a link to the form. Remember that you can always encourage employers not on the list to participate in the Emory L-STAR program.
Other Information
This contribution is TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. Even though the firm is donating the cost of a hotel stay or transportation costs, the contribution is equivalent to any normal donation to EPIC. Please direct all questions regarding the Emory L-STAR program to lstar(at)law.emory.edu.
