Members of Emory Law’s Mock Trial Society took home the southeast regional title at the fifth annual Labor and Employment Law (LEL) Trial Advocacy Competition Nov. 15-16, in Miami, Fla.

The winning team – which includes third-year law students Danielle Barbour and Andrew Robbins and second-year students Rhani Lott and Jonathan Wright (pictured left to right) – will travel to Chicago, Ill., to compete for the national title Jan. 24-25, 2009. The team is coached by Emory Law alumnus Robert Kaufman and Kirsten Widner, post-graduate fellow for the Barton Child Law and Policy Clinic.

The LEL Trial Advocacy Competition is hosted by the Labor and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association. During the two-day competition, participating teams argued whether the actions or inactions of government organization constituted sexual harassment resulting in the discharge of the female employee. Each round was judged by local practitioners specializing in labor and employment law, with the final round presided over by a judge from the Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
