Van der Vyver Participating in Review Conference of the Assembly of States Parties of the ICC
Professor Johan van der Vyver is currently participating in the Review Conference of the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Kampala, Uganda. The Review Conference is contemplating adding a definition of the crime of aggression to the Statute of the ICC that will enable the Court to exercise jurisdiction for the prosecution of that crime, as well as other amendments to the jurisdictional proivisions of the ICC. Also on its agenda is "stocktaking" in respect to four subject-matters: 1) The effect of prosecutions on victims and effected societies, 2) the tension between justice (prosecutions) and peace efforts, 3) the principle of complementarity, and 4) state cooperation with the court.
In August, Professor van der Vyver will give a series of lectures on law and religion at the University of Beijing in China. He also is an Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Private Law of the University of Pretoria and will give lectures to LL.M. students in the Institute of Human Rights at the University of Pretoria.List: <- Back to: News Releases
