Should the Rabbi be jailed for contempt? Broyde quoted in LA Times
Two years ago, Rabbi Moshe Zigelman went to jail rather than testify against fellow Jews in a federal tax evasion case. Ziegelman cited the ancient Jewish doctrine of mesira, which prohibits Jews from informing on other Jews to secular authorities.
Prosecutors were threatening jail for contempt again for the 64-year-old earlier this week. Emory Professor of Law and Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Law Michael Broyde was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article on the case, published Wednesday, Sept. 7.
