Ruskola Delivers Keynote at University of London

Emory Law Professor Teemu Ruskola delivered the keynote address at a multidisciplinary conference on Law and Orientalism, held in London on Feb. 18-19. The conference was co-sponsored by the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, the Notre Dame Law School in London and the Journal of Comparative Law, which will publish the conference papers as a special issue.

Ruskola is an internationally recognized authority on Chinese law and the author of an oft-cited article “Legal Orientalism,” published in the Michigan Law Review in 2002 and reprinted subsequently in the United Kingdom, Germany and the People’s Republic of China (in Chinese translation).

After attending the conference in London, Ruskola presented an invited lecture at the Max Planck Institute in Frankfurt, discussing his forthcoming book on China’s role in the emergence of modern international law.
