Professor Witte Quoted Widely on Intelligent Design, Evolution Debate

By: Beverly James

Professor John Witte Jr., is quoted in several national publications--including the Chicago Tribune, the Kansas City Star, the St. Petersburg Times, the Orlando Sentinel, the (Australia) Mercury, and the Montreal (Canada) Gazette--regarding the recent debate on whether to teach intelligent design in schools.

"[Kitzmiller et al. v. Dover Area School District] is likely to be regarded as the Scopes case of the 21st century - celebrated and lamented alike as the case that commanded not only the separation of church and state but also the alienation of religion and science," said Witte Jr., director of the Center for the Study of Law and Religion. He referred to the 1925 Scopes "Monkey Trial" pitting evolution against creationism in Tennessee classrooms.
