Professor Schapiro Comments on Alito High Court Nomination in Letter to NY Times

By: Beverly James

On November 2, the New York Times ran a letter to the editor written by Professor Robert Schapiro on the nomination of Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court.

Responding to a November 1 op-ed written by Ann Althouse entitled ''Separated at the Bench,'' Schapiro wrote that having a record of judicial experience is not enough. "The whole point of having a record is to allow a vigorous public debate based on the nominee's actual views rather than on mere supposition and innuendo. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer survived that process. Perhaps Judge Alito will as well. Let the debate begin!"
