Blank Talks to CNN About Christmas Day Terrorism Suspect
Laurie Blank, acting director of Emory Law's International Humanitarian Law Clinic, was featured on CNN Newsroom on Friday, Jan. 8, discussing terrorism suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
Abdulmutallab is accused of attempting to detonate explosives on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Dec. 25, 2009. He faces six federal charges.
“The first thing to keep in mind is that he may be a terrorist, but he's still a criminal,” said Blank. “He got on that airplane, he tried to blow it up, that's a crime under U.S. law. We have multiple, multiple laws that criminalize terrorism. And our federal courts are very experienced in dealing with terrorists.”
Blank also wrote an op-ed for Jurist on Jan. 12, "New Wars, New Rules? Not So Fast...".
