Congratulations to Steve and Terri!

Steve Weyer and Terri Porter have been chosen as recipients of the second "Working in the Public Interest Student Achievement Award."  The award is given by UGA's Public Interest Law Group to honor law students who, through their work in public interest, make a significant difference in the lives of the indigent or under served.

The WIPI Board would like to honor and thank these two of our board members for your work as this year's Inspiration Awards Co-Chairs. Because of their work on the EPIC board, both were nominated by Megan Pulsts.

In 2007, The WIPI Executive board created the WIPI Student Achievement to honor law students who, through their work in public interest, made a significant difference in the lives of the indigent or under served. Your work on this amazing fundraiser will afford students the opportunities to explore Public Interest Law.

The first recipient of this Award was Cliff Williams, a 3L from Georgia State University who interned at the Georgia Innocence Project and was instrumental in helping to exonerate Pete Williams, an individual who served 20 years of a 45-year sentence for a rape that he did not commit.

The student-organized WIPI Conference provides a forum where law students, law professors and practicing attorneys can discuss practical solutions to today's problems of social justice.  The Conference's perennial theme is "Challenging Poverty Through Law." This year's conference will focus on "The Role of Public Interest Lawyers in Defending Civil Liberties."

This year's conference will take place on April 4-5, 2008 in Athens, Georgia, at the University of Georgia School of Law. The award will be presented on Friday, April 4, 2008. The award ceremony will take place after our Keynote address on Friday evening and will be followed by a reception.
