Congratulations on your acceptance to Emory University School of Law and welcome to our community! You made an excellent choice and I look forward to seeing you at Emory this fall. Orientation 2008 will officially begin on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, and the mandatory-attendance events run through Friday, August 22, 2008. There will be some student-led social events even before then, so you may want to plan to be in Atlanta by the start of August to settle into your housing and start meeting your new classmates. Also, check out the Atlanta and Emory University links on the Student Affairs main page, under Resources for Students, for dozens of events, places to visit, etc. Atlanta is an exciting, vibrant city and Emory is a world-class university with many resources; I hope you will take advantage of them!
The Office of Student Affairs oversees Orientation and is a primary liaison between students and the administration and faculty at Emory Law School. We are responsible for enhancing the quality of life of students through support for student groups, academic assistance and personal counseling, while also providing faculty, staff, administration and alumni with necessary services and information to fulfill the academic mission of Emory Law School. Our office is also responsible for overseeing matters regarding the Professional Conduct Code of Emory Law School.
Preparing for law school can be overwhelming – I hope that our site will answer many questions for you this summer and provide you with the information you need as you make your transition to Atlanta and Emory. The primary objective of Orientation is to facilitate your smooth transition into law school. Please continue to check this website during the summer; we will be posting our detailed Orientation Schedule of Events, Frequently Asked Questions and Summer Checklist, probably by early July. Please return to this site periodically, as we will also be adding class materials for you to prepare prior to your arrival on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
If you have questions about Orientation, please feel free to contact the Office of Student Affairs. Deborah D. Floyd, Director of Student Affairs, can be reached at dfloyd(at)law.emory.edu or at 404-727-6829. I can be reached at kbrokaw(at)law.emory.edu.
Welcome to Emory! I look forward to meeting you.
