Georgia Child Welfare Legal Academy

The Georgia Child Welfare Legal Academy is a collaboration between the Supreme Court of Georgia Committee on Justice for Children and the Barton Child Law and Policy Clinic to bring child welfare legal experts to Emory Law School for a monthly workshop as Visiting Scholars in Practice.

GCWLA Training Workshops:

The 2010 Georgia Child Welfare Legal Academy presents the next program on March 3, 2010. Online registration is strongly recommended. Visit www.regonline.com/caseplan to register.

The Honorable R. Michael Key will teach about effective case planning as well as the required evidentiary finding of whether the agency has made reasonable efforts to reunify a family AND the evidentiary finding required to make sure reasonable efforts have been made to achieve permanency for a child/ren.  Visitation as a required part of the case plan will also be addressed.

Judge Key, of LaGrange, GA, has been a juvenile court judge in Troup County since 1989. He has held numerous leadership roles with the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges and in July 2010 he will be the President of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. He has also received several child advocacy awards in his role as a juvenile judge and is a wonderful speaker.  Judge Key is alumnus of Emory Law School (79L). 

CLE credit: 1.0 Professionalism and 2.0 regular CLE credits will be offered for this program for an additional fee of $30.00 payable by cash or check at the door. Please make checks payable to Emory University.
