Policies
Non-Discrimination Policy
Emory University is dedicated to providing equal opportunities to all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, ethnic or national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, veteran’s status or any factor that is a prohibited consideration under applicable law. The services of the Office of Career Services are available only to those employers whose practices are consistent with this policy.
Grade Policies and Information
The following information may be of interest to employers as they evaluate our students' resumes.
An Explanation of the Grading System, which includes letter grade values and the numerical rankings for Fall 2008 by class year, is available. Emory Law's policy is to rank only the top 1/3 of each class. Our GPAs are calculated on a 4.30 scale.
Each year the Office of Career Services and Vice Dean Jim Hughes distribute the Rules for Reporting Grades which serve as a guide as you prepare job search correspondence as well as outline our expectations regarding honest disclosure of your academic performance.
Students often begin their employment search before all of their grades are available and their transcripts finalized. In those instances, we require students to submit an Unofficial Grade Report to employers. In addition, Unofficial Grade Reports are used to apply for on-campus interview applications because they can be uploaded on the Symplicity system, but photocopies of transcripts from the Registrar's Office are appropriate for distribution in an interview setting. In preparation for interviews, we recommend students order a copy of their transcript.
Students can order a transcript online from the University Registrar's Office or pick up a "Request for Transcript" form in the file rack outside Celeste Katz's office. It generally takes 48 hours to process requests for transcripts. We suggest that students order one unofficial copy of their transcript ($4) and then make photocopies for employers who request them. Also, please note that students who have studied with other units of Emory University will have transcripts that include that additional academic information.
Release of Student Information
It is Emory Law's policy not to release contact information about our students to employers, including addresses, telephone numbers or email addresses.
