At Family and Friends Day, attendees experience a day in the life of an Emory Law student. You will hear from Emory Law Interim Dean Robert Schapiro, as well as the deans of Student Affairs and Career Services. Guests and their students will eat lunch together and sit in on an actual law class. All are invited to a reception at the end of the day.
This is a great opportunity to learn about what goes on during the first year of law school. Last year, more than 100 family and friends attended this annual event. We look forward to seeing you!

8:30 a.m. - Light breakfast and check-in
9 a.m. - Welcome by Family and Friends Day Chair Rob Kaufman 75L
Discussion with Interim Dean Robert Schapiro and Vice Dean Robert Ahdieh.
10:15 a.m. - Presentations from Offices of Career Services and Student Affairs and Development & Alumni Relations
11:30 a.m. - Mock class for guests
12:30 p.m. - Lunch with your student
2 p.m. – Sit in on torts class with your student

Cost
$25 per guest (includes breakfast, lunch and afternoon reception). Event is free to Emory Law students.
$12 all-day parking in Lowergate Parking Deck.

Schedule
Check-in and a light, continental breakfast will occur from 8:30–9 a.m. in room 1E of Gambrell Hall. The program begins at 9 a.m. with a welcome from our Family and Friends Chair Rob Kaufman 79L, followed by a presentation and Q&A with Interim Dean Robert Schapiro and Vice Dean Robert Ahdieh.
The morning continues with presentations from our Student Services, Career Services along with Development and Alumni Relations divisions. Then, after a short break, a Professor will lead the group through a sample Civil Procedure class. At 12:30 p.m., you will join your students for lunch, and then attend an actual first-year Torts class with them in the afternoon. The day concludes at 3:30 p.m. with a reception on Bacardi Plaza.
Lunch
Box lunches are provided for all guests and their student at 12:30 p.m. If you have special dietary needs, please contact Cassandra Blackburn so that we may try to accommodate your request.
Attire
Similar to what your students wear to class, casual/comfortable dress is appropriate.
Hotel Accommodations
The Emory Conference Center Hotel and the Emory Inn is offering substantial discounts for Family and Friends Day participants from Sept. 8-10. Both properties are located on Clifton Road, approximately one mile from Emory Law, and van service is available from both the hotel and inn to the school.
The rates we negotiated are $119/night at the Conference Center Hotel (Westin-like), and $76/night at the Emory Inn (Hampton Inn-like). Parking
Parking is available at Lowergate Parking Deck for Guest on campus. Hourly parking is available - all day parking is $12. Directions: From N. Decatur, turn on Clifton Road. Pass Emory School of Law building on right. At second red light, turn right near hospital. Follow road to right and park in deck. Retrieve ticket, payment based on time used.
If you pre-paid for parking, you may park in the Lowergate SOUTH Parking Deck behind Gambrell Hall (1301 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30322). This is a reserved deck, and a security guard will be posted at the deck’s entrance from 8:15-9 a.m. with a list to allow you admittance.
Readings/Homework
At 11:30 a.m., the group will be lead through a mock Civil Procedure Law class. The preparatory readings materials is available below. We ask that you download and review in advance of the class. The document is in PDF form, and we recommend that you print it for the class. Guests should feel free to come to the class even if you do not have time to read these materials.
