Fellowships and Scholarships

Woodruff Fellows Program

In 1980, Emory University established the Robert W. Woodruff Scholars and Fellows Program. Emory Law School awards up to five Robert W. Woodruff Fellowships in Law each year to men and women of exceptional character, scholastic abilities, and leadership qualities. Each fellowship covers tuition and fees plus a $3000 stipend per year.

To be considered for a fellowship award, a complete application for admission must be submitted to the Office of Admission by January 15.  Select the appropriate category on the application for admission stating your desire to be considered for a Woodruff Fellowship.  There is not a separate application for the Woodruff Fellowship. You must be nominated for the fellowship.   A nomination letter should be submitted from an academic dean, a pre-law advisor, professor, or another appropriate official from your undergraduate or graduate institution.  If you have been out of school for more than two years and are employed, you may seek a nomination letter from your current employer.

The Woodruff nomination letter is a separate letter from your letters of recommendation.  An application eligible for Woodruff consideration will have one Woodruff nomination letter and two letters of recommendation.  The postmark deadline for nomination is January 15.

Finalists for the Woodruff Fellows Program will be contacted in late February and invited to campus for an interview. Fellowship recipients will be notified in March.

Nomination letters should be submitted to
