About Atlanta

At Emory, our students get the best of both worlds: a close-knit community and the opportunity to learn in a thriving metropolis of Atlanta.

The city continues to fulfill its claim as the capital of the New South. Atlanta maintains its status as the cultural, educational, and financial center of the South as well as a premier international city.

A progressive, dynamic city that retains a small-town feel, Atlanta is a true melting pot. You will find a diverse metropolitan population of slightly more than five million.

The city of Atlanta offers a variety of experiences for students, in and out of the classroom. Downtown, you will see renovated, classical office buildings mingled with steel-and-glass skyscrapers. The city stretches north along Peachtree Street to Midtown - the city's financial district as well as the center of its thriving arts community - and farther north to Buckhead, home to much of the city's nightlife. Emory's serene campus lies to the east of this main artery and near neighborhoods that attest to Atlanta's remarkable diversity - the Victorian-era houses of Inman Park, modern mansions in Buckhead, offbeat Little Five Points, trendy and diverse Virginia-Highlands, and Emory's own neighborhood, Druid Hills.

An efficient rapid rail and city bus system (MARTA) and an advanced highway grid make the entire metro area accessible by public or private transportation.

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Fox Theater, Zoo Atlanta, and the High Museum of Art head the long list of cultural attractions.
