Turner Clinic to Participate in Nuclear Licensing Hearing in Florida
The Turner Environmental Law Clinic travels to Miami Thursday and Friday (Nov. 18-19) to participate in a pre-hearing conference about the Turkey Point nuclear facility in Homestead, Fla., with the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Turner Clinic students-attorneys DeKeely Atkins 11L, Matt Shechtman 11L, Carter Thurman 12L and Maggie Wendler 11L were granted permission to present oral arguments before the NRC board on behalf of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. They seek formal intervention in the permit proceeding between Florida Power and Light Co. and the NRC.
Florida Power and Light submitted an application to the NRC to build two nuclear reactors at a site adjacent to Biscayne Bay and the Everglades National Park. The students will argue that the power company's environmental report, submitted in its application, was inadequate in addressing numerous environmental impacts the project will have on the area and is in violation of the National Environmental Policy Act.List: <- Back to: News Releases
