Professor Shepherd Supports ABA Reforms in US News ArticleBy: Beverly James
Professor George Shepherd is quoted in an April 10 U.S. News & World Report article on America's top graduate schools. Shepherd argues that the cost of legal training excludes many worthy people from the legal profession. "Right now, we require everybody to get a sophisticated, expensive legal education--to buy the Lexus training, when most people would be content with a Corolla education," said Shepherd, a reform proponent. He noted that the pricey American Bar Association accreditation process keeps tuitions high--more than $35,000 a year at some elite private schools--and deters prospective applicants from working- and middle-class backgrounds.
