Professor Levine Featured in National Article on Law to Execute Repeat Child RapistsBy: Beverly James
The Associated Press recently interviewed Professor Kay L. Levine about a proposed South Carolina law seeking the death penalty for repeat child rapists. The story ran April 20 in national media outlets including CNN, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Newsday, and the Chicago Sun Times.
The United States Supreme Court ruled in 1977 that execution is an excessive penalty for rape. "Anything less than the taking of a life could never justify an execution — that's how most people read the Supreme Court decision," said Levine, an expert on the regulation of sexuality, juvenile justice, and victimless crimes.
