Mock Trial Society Hosts Southeastern Regional Competition

Emory Law’s Mock Trial Society hosted the Southeastern Regional Competition for the National Mock Trial Competition on Feb. 11-14, at Atlanta’s Fulton County Courthouse. Despite the wintry weather, 23 mock trial teams representing 13 law schools participated in the competition, sponsored by the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the American College of Trial Lawyers.

The Emory Law team of Jacob Kirkham 11L, Rhani Lott 10L and Valerie Warner Danin 10L advanced to the final round, where they were defeated by the Georgia State University School of Law team. The GSU team will compete in March at the National Mock Trial Competition in Dallas.

When Friday’s wintry weather forced the cancellation of more than half of the volunteer judges and witnesses travel plans, Justin Victor 10L, host committee chair, organized a committee to recruit new volunteers and extended the competition to Sunday. Oderah Nwaeze 11L and Jennifer Cox 10L also worked through the weekend to ensure the competition was a success.
