Emory Moot Court Society Wins NYU Competition
Emory Moot Court Society members Scott Soulages 13L and Komal Patel 13L won the Seventh Annual New York University School of Law Immigration Competition, held Feb. 24-26.
Soulages and Patel were recognized for writing the best petitioner brief and were coached by Clark Copelin 12L and Kinda Abdus-Saboor 12L.
The tournament is open to law schools around the country. This year, 15 teams were represented.
“This victory is especially rewarding for coaches Copelin and Abdus-Saboor who were the runner-up team at last year's competition,” said Katie Blakey 12L, the society’s director-in-chief.
Emory’s team faced Georgetown University in the finals, where they argued before Judge Fortunato Pedro "Pete" Benavides of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, Judge Denny Chin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
