Emory Law Professor and Alumna Win Good Apple Award

Emory Law Professor Frank S. Alexander and Emory Law alumna Teri Plummer McClure 88L are the recipients of the 2009 Good Apple Award, presented by the Georgia Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. Alexander and McClure will be honored at a dinner Thursday, April 16, at the Park Tavern Garden Tent at Piedmont Park.

The Good Apple Award recognizes distinguished pro bono leadership that exemplifies the values and goals of Georgia Appleseed, addresses social justice problems and advocates for children, the poor and the marginalized.

Alexander is professor of law and founding director of the Center for the Study of Law and Religion at Emory University. He focuses his scholarship, practice and pro bono work in property law, real estate sales and finance, state and local government law, law and theology, and federal housing policies. Alexander earned his JD and a master’s in theological studies from Harvard University.

“Frank Alexander’s scholarly expertise, his pro bono work around heir property, and his sensitivity to seeking justice at every level are tribute to his impact on our community and his worthy recognition as a Good Apple,” said Sharon Hill 85L, executive director of Georgia Appleseed.

McClure is senior vice president and general counsel at UPS, overseeing the company’s legal, compliance and public affairs activities worldwide. In 2008, she received Emory Law’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

McClure serves on the boards of the UPS Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Junior Achievement Worldwide, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights and is co-chair of the Georgia Supreme Court Equal Justice Commission’s Committee on Civil Justice.

“We are proud to salute Teri as a Good Apple working to improve our legal system for the benefit of Georgians statewide,” Hill said.
