Bederman Presents at Nicholas J. Healy Lecture

Professor David J. Bederman presented at the eighth annual Nicholas J. Healy Lecture on Admiralty Law May 3. The lecture, held at the New York University School of Law, honors Nicholas J. Healy, Adjunct Professor of Law in Admiralty at New York University for nearly forty years. Admiralty law, also known as maritime law, is a distinct body of law governing maritime offenses.

This year’s lecture, titled “Admiralty’s Greatest Hits,” brought together Professor Bederman and panelists Michael F. Sturley of University of Texas Law School, Martin Davies of Tulane Law School, and Joseph C. Sweeney of Fordham Law School. Each panelist presented one leading admiralty case and explained why it deserves to be among the “greatest admiralty decisions of all time.” Professor Bederman spoke on the 1959 case of Romero v. International Terminal Operating Co., 358 U.S. 354.
