Adelman 89L Hosts Singapore Alumni Event Featuring GE Vice-Chairman
U.S. Ambassador to Singapore David Adelman 89L hosted "The Global View: 21st Century ASEAN Economy and Business," an invitation-only event for the Singapore chapter of Emory Alumni. They were joined by Emory University Trustee John Rice, vice chairman of General Electric and president and CEO for the company’s Global Growth and Operations.
A group of 32 alumni, parents and former faculty attended the event, held Feb. 20 at the ambassador’s residence. Rice spoke about the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ potential in the global economy, using examples from Rice’s experience in the region and worldwide.
Rice has led the company’s global operations based in Hong Kong since 2010. His previous work for the company includes two years in Singapore. In 1995 Rice relocated there as president of GE’s Plastics business for Asia/Pacific.
Adelman has served as ambassador to Singapore since 2010. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Georgia state senator from 2002 to 2010. Adelman was also a partner with Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP, where his practice focused on renewable energy, communications and technology companies. In addition to his commercial law practice, he represented indigent veterans pro bono and has been recognized for his work against domestic violence.
